The Rev'd Gregory Syler

Rector

St. George's is filled with "practitioners of faith," and the congregation's increasing focus on mission has brought with it an increase of life and liveliness.

The same could be said of Greg Syler's ministry! When Greg moved to Valley Lee, it was a bit quieter. Now, his home is abuzz with a lot of life -- chiefly from Carter St. Clair, his beautiful daughter who is a bundle of energy and joy. "There's a lot of life at St. George's," Greg said recently, "and I'm so glad to be a part of such an increasingly vibrant congregation."

Originally from Chicago, Greg enjoys living in St. Mary's County. Greg graduated from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago, and later completed one year of Anglican Studies at the Virginia Seminary. In the years between, he taught theology at a Roman Catholic high school in Chicago.

Greg loves spending time with his friends and family, cooking and eating local, in-season foods, reading and enjoying the outdoors. From time to time, you can find him on his kayak in Herring Creek, or enjoying the evening breeze with Carter on the broad front porch of the rectory. In addition to his work with St. George's, Greg is President of the Board of Directors of the Pastoral Counseling Center of St. Mary's. He's also a member of Diocesan Council and served on the Bishop's Search / Nominating Committee.  He is also is the clericus convener for Region 6 (southern Maryland) in our Diocese of Washington.
