ASCENSION DAY COOKOUT & HOLY EUCHARIST, MAY 17

Posted May 3rd, 2012

Forty days after Easter, Jesus ascended. At St. George's, we celebrate this Festival Day with a COOKOUT (...aroma's ascending), KITE-FLYING (...kites ascending, or at least trying to), and an outdoor HOLY EUCHARIST (...prayers and praises ascending, too)!  Starts at 5:30pm on Thursday, May 17.  We provide the hamburgers and sausages, and hope you'll come -- and bring side-dishes, salads, desserts, and/or beverages to share.  See you there!

CRAB CAKE FESTIVAL, SAT. JUNE 2

Posted April 30th, 2012

Live music, drinks, games & events and a delicious CRAB CAKE DINNER for only $18.  Saturday, June 2 at St. George's. Come for the food and stay for the festival!  1 to 7pm.

This is a Crab Cake FUN-raiser, designed to bring together the parish and wider community.  You won't want to miss the headline bands or the chance to sip and sample God's bounty under the wide-encompassing shade trees of the churchyard, all while you sip St. Mary's County wine (or other beverages) and enjoy your friends, new and old.

We're going back to our history, in many ways.  Years ago, the parish gathered every spring at the old parish hall and brought what they had -- watermen brought crabs; farmers, some chickens; others, what they could find in their gardens out back.  Children and adults, old and young, gathered and ate and talked...all until the sun went down and someone brought out piano, some instruments, and the dining room became a dance floor.  It was a festival, not (what it's become in recent decades) a fund-raiser.  Our history serves as a guide homeward.

Come for the food, and stay for the festival!  St. George's CRAB CAKE FESTIVAL - 1 to 7pm on Saturday, June 2.  Boxed-dinners consisting of crab cakes, potatoes, cole slaw, green beans, and a roll for only $18.  Desserts and drinks available, as well.  Drive-thru carry-out, also.

ST. GEORGE'S DRAGONS SOFTBALL, 2012

Posted April 30th, 2012

The St. George's Dragons, our softball team, hits the field again this summer, and Coach Mike Knight wants to encourage any and all interested persons to come out -- either to play or to support the team from the stands.

Most of the games are Monday nights, and we gather to give glory and praise to God -- and have fun together.  Every game starts at 6:15pm at Chancellor's Run Park on Chancellor's Run Road.

A "Burger Burn & Movie Night" fundraiser will be at St. George's on Friday evening, May 4, and it's a time for fellowship and fun...and to raise a little money for some incidental expenses.  All are welcome!

EXPLORING COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES

Posted February 2nd, 2012

St. George's has become a leader in a movement to get beyond sustainability and break-through to doing Christ's mission in a new way.  We've been exploring the work of collaborative ministries, together with our sibling congregations in southern Maryland.  This new movement has caught the attention of the Episcopal Church and our Diocese of Washington.  The Rev'd Greg Syler, rector of St. George's, writes, "Collaboration is about breaking through to the new.  It isn't about keeping up the structures we've inherited.  At its core, what's really happening in the Episcopal Church is that we're witnessing the hand of God transforming the residues of conventional Christianity into a robust, mission-minded fellowship who gathers in the name of His Son, Jesus."
